February 5, 2018: Lessons Learned from a Former Chief Data Steward

Barbara Deemer was the Chief Data Steward and co-lead of Navient Corporation’s award-winning Data Governance Program from 2009 until January 2018. Barbara began her career with Navient (formerly Sallie Mae) in 1982 as a payroll clerk. She held multiple positions with increasing responsibility in several divisions of the company prior to become the Controller of the Fortune 500 company in 2000. She retired in 2003 and came back to the company as a consultant to work on data issues in 2005 and became the Chief Data Steward in 2009. Barbara will present some of the critical success factors to building and sustaining an enterprise Data Governance Program as well as lessons learned in her role as the Chief Data Steward.
